I've noticed that HN discussions around music theory posts have become more critical recently, and honestly I welcome it. About damn time.
There's this fallacy that learning music theory will somehow make you better at music. It's a harmful idea to teach programmers and engineers because they end up carrying the wrong parts of music over to computers. And then we end up with projects like Google Magenta, which at their best produce copious amounts of stale music.
Some HN users understand this, and it's nice to see discussions about this sort of nuance in music.
trying out a mediawiki for the scanlines.xyz community. i tried using mediawiki a while back for personal research but it wasn't quite the right fit. but for a collaborative documentation project i think it might work pretty well. i just installed it last night and it went pretty smoothly, need to configure some more things, and then try migrating some content over from our "wiki" posts on the discourse forum.
it can also be written: New Delusion
or the most obvious counterpart: Nude Illusion.
- i haven’t been on the internet much, i’ve just been doing things irl and existing. i still check my feed sometimes, it just feels like there isn’t a lot to say that lends itself to easily digestible "statuses." but i’m here, and still enjoying seeing what others are up to on here :)
here are some updates.
- my new housemates and i are moved into our new house. we are still curbing the chaos a little and finishing setting up studio zones, but our house is excellent
- we have a variety of saws for woodworking now and i built myself a simple, low bedframe platform (in my previous apartment, i had a loft)
- i found an old e-reader for $2 at a thrift store, and was able to get it working and loaded up with epubs. i just finished reading my first book on it yesterday
rainy sunday … continued with the typewriting stuff. i liked the idea from my first try with the textile pattern, so i continued a bit. I made some basic elements first and then merged them into a larger image on a grid. It’s more like a flying carpet now or wavy glitch something. I also used other glyphs that give it a more dense, textile like appearance (/, %, §). I didn’t want to in the first place, but things got very complicated VERY fast and i had to use a text-editor for composition and as template for typing line by line…
feeling a bit worn out. i have had two extra demanding weeks of job work interspersed with a weekend of moving heavy objects, insufficient sleep, and apartments completely filled with piles of unpacked belongings. looking forward to getting back to the point where i have the energy to do the things i really want to, instead of just the bare minimum of what i need to.
i was able to sleep no problem ! i guess it was decaf.
in other news, i was parsing JSON in my dream.
will i sleep tonight?
tune into the next episode to find out!
